Yankees Take Two of Three From The Dodgers And Make a Giant Statement To The Rest of Major League Baseball
Yankees 5 Dodgers 1
What a weekend for the New York Yankees. Fresh off getting swept in Oakland and being the owners of a season high four game losing streak, things were certainly not shaping up too well as they headed to LA to face the NL-best Dodgers. Awaiting them were Ryu, a game started by CC Sabathia, and Clayton Kershaw. Based on how they were playing you could easily see them getting swept, or at the minimum losing the series. Instead, they completely shutdown this vaunted Dodgers lineup, and beat both Ryu and Kershaw. Unbelievable.
Now I was more upbeat than most after Thursday. I had faith that the boys would bounce back, giving the amount of eyeballs that were going to be on this series. They knew it was huge and they showed up in the biggest of ways.
Tonight DJ LeMahieu got things going immediately with an immediate blast off Kershaw. Classic Big Game Clayton shitting himself.
Domingo, however, wasted no time giving back the lead as Joc went lift off.
Muncy immediately ripped a double and Bellinger walked, presenting Domingo with some immediate danger right off out of the gate. Given how bad Domingo has been on the road, this could have been really bad. Instead he struck out Seager and got Taylor to line out to Tauchman to escape trouble. This was massive and allowed the offense a chance to get something going again without being in a hole. That changed the game I think.
Aaron Judge obliged, thanks to this lolli-pop curveball right in his kill zone.
The man is red hot. Every ball he makes contact on I expect to be a home run. It’s been a while, but he’s back. I’m so excited to watch these next two months of destruction. The rest of the league is fucked.
Didi Gregorius left the game early after being hit in the shoulder by a Kershaw fastball. He looked like he was in a lot of pain and had to come out in the 3rd inning. We’re still awaiting the results of his x-rays so fingers crossed, but I’m hoping for just a bruise that swelled up quick. He did fire off his victory tweet so I’m taking that as a good sign.
Replacing Didi in the game was Mike Ford. What did he do? Oh nothing, just blasted a homer off Kershaw and later roped a huge RBI double to give the Yanks a huge insurance run.
The Price of Motherfucking Princeton baby. The son of two doctors. The father of Clayton Kershaw. I love that guy.
Back to Domingo German. He entered this game with a 5.82 ERA on the road. Bad. He was shelled just recently in Oakland. After giving up that first pitch homer you had a bad, bad feeling about what was to come. Instead of getting rocked, Sunday locked the fuck in and twirled six great innings of one run ball, scattering five hits and striking out 5 in just 85 pitches. He was fantastic on Sunday night. Domingo on Domingo. An unbeatable formula. This was massive for his confidence.
What a weekend. The Dodgers fearsome lineup was limited to five runs. FIVE. What a job by the pitching staff. Cody Bellinger? The MVP favorite? Held to one little single. That’s it. He was completely shutdown this series. Remarkable job by Paxton, Domingo, CC, Kahnle, Green, Ottavino, Britton, Chapman. They were all fantastic.
Statement win. Statement series. Let’s fucking go. Everyone ready to crown LA, saying there’s nothing that can stop them. Fuck that noise. They’re human. Keep this momentum going and go blow the doors off Seattle and get back home.
